"Bullet-In" club newsletter #299
for May 2017

FROM THE COMMITTEE:

The next meeting of the Committee will be at the DA HAll PArkvale on Wednesday 31 May 2017 at 7:00 pm (last Wednesday of the month); all new members are encouraged to attend, & all members are welcome!

PRESIDENT'S NOTES

From The President & Committee:

New Club Gun: the club newly acquired .44 magnum revolver had its first official outing at a corp shoot Saturday 29th April. It certainly is impressive and everyone who was game enough to have a shot or three thoroughly enjoyed it.

Any members wanting to test the new revolver, it is $10 for 5 rounds. Gary has the pistol at present until it is listed on the other two armourer's licenses.

WPSSC and the Police: the recent media attention regarding the L&O report is still gaining considerable publicity. There is an interesting article in the April 26th issue of the Wairarapa Midweek from Federated Farmers who oppose the report.

In the same issue there is also an article by former president Neil Hayes. Both these items are posted on the club noticeboard for your convenience.

Meeting with PNHQ staff: a couple of weeks ago we had a meeting with representatives from Police National HQ firearms section.

Briefly: it was quite an informative discussion. There is no change with regards to pistol barrel length. The measurement remains at the minimum overall length of 100 mm. They (police) are reviewing their stance on A cat safes, considering allowing attachments such as permanently fixed muzzle breaks etc to be included in the overall length of an MSSA. They cited a computer programming problem as a major cause in the delay or non issue of Import Permits and claim to be up to date. T

hey further stated that a permit should be issued with 30 days of application and if you hear nothing after 40 days contact your arms officer. The police also reiterated they are under-staffed, under-funded and under-resourced.

Club: all in all the club is running smoothly. We have regular membership enquiries, club shoots and range days are well attended. Hell, it took only 8 years, but I finally got the Landlord to the range today (29/04) to air his .270, and AIR it he did with some quite good shooting considering (his claim) he hadn't fired it in anger for about 10 years.

Nick Taylor vs Police; judicial review: there is plenty of info on this on social media. If you wish to support this case, which will benefit all FAL's, go to the FALOPOR (Firearm Licence Owners Protecting Our Rights)'GiveALittle' page and make a donation. Every dollar counts.

There's also a FaceBook page & group online.  Spread the info' around & make sure the politicians KNOW how you feel.

Anyone wishing to discuss the WPSSC's 'ban on police using our range for training purposes', are welcome to attend the committee meeting at the DA Hall in Parkvale; 7:00 pm, Wednesday 31st May.

OTHER NEWS:

Service Match: Colin Farley advises that he plans to run a Club Service Champ's Match on May 14 (Mothers' Day) starting 0930 for 10 am.  There will be prizes, & you'll need 90 rounds minimum.

On the Range: please remember that members (committee included) go to the club to engage in activities, have a plink, test re-loads, sight in a rifle etc and often have limited time to do so.

In the interests of keeping this a positive environment in which one can relax and enjoy, please refer club politics to a monthly committee meeting. Meetings are well advertised, and all members are welcome to attend. Here views can be expressed in a controlled manner and steps taken to resolve issues in good time.

Safety on Range 6: Please note that if you are on Range 6, & need to go downrange (for whatever reason) after closing the range, place the orange "Range Closed" cone in front of the firing point to advise anyone coming to the range.  There has been one occasion where a person was observed (in time, & safety) emerging from the bush downrange before shooting was to commence.

IPSC: Phil Dunlop

PNZ training manuals: hard copies of the General Coaching Skills Manual were recently ordered and are available. FYI, manuals for all disciplines are available on-line at: http://www.pistolnz.org.nz/training.aspx.
