"Bullet-In" club newsletter #286 for January 2016

A message from Gary Rawlinson, President WPSSC

The new year is off to a good start with good attendances and many taking advantage of the Public Holiday range days. For those who are unaware of these additional range days, they are posted on the club (wild apricot) website for quick reference (NB:
they are: all public holidays except:  Christmas Day, Anzac Day & Good Friday).

A reminder about Wednesday shooting hours: during daylight saving shooting cannot commence until 1500 hrs (3 pm) and non daylight saving days shooting can commence at 1400 hrs (2 pm).

Finish time for Wednesday at any time of year is 2000 hrs (8 pm) or dusk, whichever occurs first. In other words when the days get shorter and it gets dark earlier than 2000 hrs, shooting must  cease. No shooting during the hours of darkness without committee approval and the landlord's consent; e.g. the range has been used with prior approval during the hours of darkness for police training purposes.

Corporate shoots: these shoots are becoming very popular. We are receiving good feedback from clients and getting repeat groups which is extremely encouraging. Corp shoots are our biggest revenue earner and go a long way toward club running costs and have eliminated the need to increase membership subscriptions for several years now.

Offers of assistance at these shoots is always welcome and members helping often comment after witnessing the great experience visitors get from these events.

Club Day:
we are in the process or organising a 'Club day'. Many members are unaware of what types of shooting are available at our club so the committee is at present organising an 'open/bring a gun' day which is intended for all members to attend the range and see what goes on in the different disciplines. Demos for speed shooting, clay shooting, black powder etc will hopefully be organised. Club firearms will be available and limited rounds provided for members to experience the different types of shooting. A nominal fee is anticipated but the club will subsidise ammunition and put on a BBQ and tea and coffee for all to relax and enjoy. The idea is to get members from all disciplines at the club on the one day and experience what types of shooting there are. Everything from black powder, clay, speed steel, three gun, service rifle, long range shooting and a 'bring a gun' event where members can handle and maybe shoot something different.

Please forward any suggestions (for this day) to the
secretary and on the day you are invited to 'bring a gun'. So give it some thought and if you have an interesting piece for anyone to view, touch or even shoot (owners option) or just need to dust something off, bring it along and tell us about it. Any restricted items on a collectors endorsement will require a police permit.

The next committee meeting is Wednesday January 27
at the club rooms (ie the range buildings) and will commence at 1930 hrs (7.30 pm).

Members from all disciplines or discipline representatives are invited to attend and discuss any ideas or requirement to help improve facilities etc.

Any expenses will have to be approved but we are wanting feedback to upgrade or improve facilities.
