DRAFT "Bullet-In" club newsletter #302

for September 2017

FROM THE COMMITTEE:

The next meeting of the Committee will be at the DA Hall PArkvale on Wednesday 27 September 2017 at 7:00 pm (last Wednesday of the month); all new members are encouraged to attend, & all members are welcome!

PRESIDENT'S NOTES

From The President & Committee:

Import permits:
During recent discussions with police WPSSC members highlighted the fact some
members were attempting 'do it yourself' or unqualified maintenance on firearms due to the frustration experienced as a result of the time delays and/or non issue of import permits, emphasising the danges of such work and where the blame would fall in the event of an accident. The police have certainly improved their timeframe in issuing permits. They advise 30 days from application and if not received within 40 days contact your local arms officer.

For those who are unaware, one (original) copy of the permit has to be sent to the incoming customs office when you receive notice from that office your goods have arrived in NZ. They will usually also ask for a copy of your FAL. An emailed scanned copy or pic is usually suffices or you can send a copy with the import permit.

AGM: The date for this has been set at November 5th, 0930 at the range (only a couple of months out) so please give some thought as to who you want to represent the club in the various positions on the committee etc. Also give some thought to any items you wish discussed at the AGM.

These need to be with the secretary  28 days beforehand (ie October 7).

Official notification will follow.

Bullet-In: in the meantime, please forward any info/items of interest, pics and match resuts to the secretary.

IPSC Competition September 8-9

Phil Dunlop

Service Rifle report, Sunday 3rd September 2017

Four hardy souls turned up this morning to compete. And although it was meant to be a .22LR match we had three centrefires and one .22LR, so the matches were amended slightly.

As seems to be normal for these days, the weather was raining or drizzling so we set up and shot from under cover on range 6. The trek to the 100 yd mound was more akin to a paddling pool than a paddock.

A couple of sighting matches was first up where Alex put her five rounds into the V with her trusty SKS. Unfortunately, after that it refused to play the game and kept jamming. Craig’s first sighters were low off the bottom of the Fig 12 but he soon got that sorted and proceeded to clean everyone else up.

First match application is a good starter to get everyone in the groove.

Action M follows which gets one’s heart rate up and the pipes cleaned out.

Le Mans is tricky to ensure that after you have recovered your second mag to ensure the rounds go onto your target not your neighbours by mistake.

Barricade is a chance to try out the new barricades that have been made, although only using the sides and top. In due course matches will be made to utilise all the opportunities that are there.

So many thanks to all who turned up, especially Dan with his two little helpers come to help out on ‘Dad’s Day’.

Results were:

1st Craig .22LR

2nd Dan .223

3rd Alex SKS

4th Simon SKS

On the Range: please remember that members (committee included) go to the club to engage in activities, have a plink, test re-loads, sight in a rifle etc and often have limited time to do so.

In the interests of keeping this a positive environment in which one can relax and enjoy, please refer club politics to a monthly committee meeting. Meetings are well advertised, and all members are welcome to attend. Here views can be expressed in a controlled manner and steps taken to resolve issues in good time.

Safety on Range 6: Please note that if you are on Range 6, & need to go downrange (for whatever reason) after closing the range, place the orange "Range Closed" cone in front of the firing point to advise anyone coming to the range.  There has been one occasion where a person was observed (in time, & safety) emerging from the bush downrange before shooting was to commence.

Wairarapa (WPSSC) Rendezvous (Black Powder)
To be held on the WPSSC Gladstone Range Wairarapa on the 27 to 29thOctober 2017.
Spring has Sprung so it’s time to Fire up those Black Powder Smoke poles at the
Gladstone Range. Bring out the old favorites or something new that needs a few
more rounds through it
Details here.
