"Bullet-In" club newsletter #300
for June 2017

FROM THE COMMITTEE:

The next meeting of the Committee will be at the DA Hall PArkvale on Wednesday 28 June 2017 at 7:00 pm (last Wednesday of the month); all new members are encouraged to attend, & all members are welcome!

PRESIDENT'S NOTES

From The President & Committee:

Club: The earth works are now pretty well completed on range 6. After the initial work the mounds, as expected, settled and had to be raised a little in order to comply with range certification requirements. There is an open drain directing water from the spring at the foot of the 200 meter mound toward the pond under the willows on the west side of the range and at a later we will lay nova flow in place of the drain.

All in all the ranges are looking great. The bank behind ranges 1-4 have recently been cleared with brush cutters much to the annoyance of the now 'ex residential wasps'........... but that is another story best told by those who invaded their space.

Later this year the WPSSC is hosting two North Island championship matches and all of the ranges on range six will be put to good use. Members will be advised details of these matches in due course.

For those who are not aware, club member Phil Dunlop is presently in Russia competing in an international match. We look forward to a report on this adventure upon his return.

The Bullet-In and the web site are only as good as the information put forward by members. It is important that Eddie wpsscsec@gmail.com receives scores and info re up-coming events and matches in good time so it can be posted either/or on the web page or in the bullet-in as appropriate.

I tried several years back to stimulate the interest of the Bullet-In with items of interest from members, personal accounts of hunting tales, reports on unique or interesting firearms or shooting related items.

This never took off so we are stuck with the 'same ole same ole' range related reports and members wonder why the bullet-in is boring, publications are irregular etc and some even wonder why the interest in their particular discipline is waning. Hell, if members don't offer anything new and interesting then it is hard to justify publishing a news letter.

The suggestion some years back for input from members died a natural death and is on a par with the interest in maintenance and up-keep of our facilities by the majority of members. It is your club and your newsletter so make it what you will. If you have something of note, interest, planning a match or event, advise Eddie as above.

The WPSSC has secured a NZ first: the NZ multi-gun Nationals in Feb 2018. This, along with the two events later this year will bring a lot of attention to the WPSSC and in view of the latest law and order report recommending further measures to penalise law abiding licensed firearm owners, we are seeking ideas and ways to promote and publicise shooting is a positive manner. Any suggestions and ideas are welcome.

The Law & Order Select Committee report is still under consideration, so please check out the FaceBook page & group online.  Spread the info' around & make sure the politicians KNOW how you feel.

Anyone wishing to discuss any WPSSC issues  are welcome to attend the committee meeting at the DA Hall in Parkvale; 7:00 pm, Wednesday 28 June.

OTHER NEWS:

Service Rifle .22LR match was held on June 11 starting 0900 for 0930; Derek's report is below:

The day started out with no wind, clear, crispy and cool then just got better.

Many thanks to Eric who patched out and placed the Fig 12 targets out on the 100 yd mound by the time I got there, having been held up by a mob of cows on East Taratahi Road. I go that way to avoid cyclists on Te Whiti Road on Sunday mornings.

Anyway, six shooters turned up including Carl who borrowed my heavy barrel 10/22 and proceeded to spank the AR15 shooters. I’m thankful I was M/D, R/O and score taker in case he beat me too. You know, when you lend your rifle to someone and they beat you with it. Mumble, mumble, not fair!!

Application was followed by Action M, Le Mans and Barricade with a minimum count of 90 rounds with sighters above that.

All over by 11.00 a.m. with smiles all around.

Overall Results

  1. Dan 4. Eric

  2. Carl 5 Hamish

  3. Matt 6. Neville

On the Range: please remember that members (committee included) go to the club to engage in activities, have a plink, test re-loads, sight in a rifle etc and often have limited time to do so.

In the interests of keeping this a positive environment in which one can relax and enjoy, please refer club politics to a monthly committee meeting. Meetings are well advertised, and all members are welcome to attend. Here views can be expressed in a controlled manner and steps taken to resolve issues in good time.

Safety on Range 6: Please note that if you are on Range 6, & need to go downrange (for whatever reason) after closing the range, place the orange "Range Closed" cone in front of the firing point to advise anyone coming to the range.  There has been one occasion where a person was observed (in time, & safety) emerging from the bush downrange before shooting was to commence.
