"Bullet-In" club newsletter #297
for February 2017

FROM THE COMMITTEE:

The next meeting of the Committee will be at the RANGE Wednesday 22nd February 2017 at 7:00 pm (last Wednesday of the month); all new members are encouraged to attend, & all members are welcome!

PRESIDENT'S NOTES

From The President & Committee:

A trial training day for the last Wednesday of the month was mentioned in the last Bullet-In to create an additional day for B members.

You may recall the following comment accompanying that item: This was trialed several years ago but unfortunately those who demanded the opportunity failed to utilise an additional day to register a “B” sanctioned attendance, so it was “canned”.  It appears history may be repeating itself because no-one turned up for the training day last month.

As mentioned, if members utilise this day it will become a scheduled monthly 'B' cat event.  Yet again a member dedicated time and made the effort, incurred a personal costs to be there for the benefit of others.

This brings me to the topic of members who continually turn up, shoot and then leave without any other input into the club other than to complain or moan because “there is no milk”,  “range six is taking too long to complete”, “the falling targets aren’t finished”, the shower is still incomplete”, etc., etc., when they should be asking “who can I talk to about helping finish this or that, mowing the lawns occasionally or making new target bases”.

Those who do all the work are few and  fast reaching burn-out and frankly getting a little pissed off that they are the only ones that continually turn up, do the work, run the events, order and maintain the supplies, help out or simply rectify a problem on their own volition or help with the corporate shoots, which by the way are the main income earner for the club.

If more members don’t step up and put in the effort then we will start turning away corporate shoots and other bookings, member input into maintenance and improvements will cease, and as there will be little or no income from range bookings and corporate events.

Inevitably subs will have to be increased, as will the cost of clay events (the cost of a 60 clay shoot was reduced a few years back) and members will incur a cost for scheduled events/competitions to generate income because the club will have to outsource the maintenance and general repair work and pay the associated costs from the club coffers.

If the majority volunteered a couple of hours once in a while or simply lifted a finger when at the club the load would be spread and those presently doing all the work (for your benefit) would get some relief, attending the club would be less of a burden and they would again enjoy the club environment and even get to do some shooting.  Your club, your call!

The CAS club champs were held on Sunday 12th Feb and the event was well attended.  Results will be advised shortly.  Thanks to Ben and Con for organizing the event and a special thanks to Dianna Lines for preparing the food and cooking the BBQ.

We are seeing good numbers attending most shoots and apart from the “mutter mumble” in the opening topic of this column, all is going well.  Finances are healthy so lets all work to keep it that way.

The club is seeking prices for shooting mats/ground sheets for range six.  Hopefully this will be finalized and the sheets purchased in the near future.

Section directors: thanks for your efforts with these & please keep forwarding shoot results to Eddie as soon as possible after the event so they can be posted on the club web site.

 GARY

Our safety/training team has reviewed the info package provided to B cat applicants with attention to obligations once that endorsement is obtained. If you know anyone considering pistol shooting, make them aware of these conditions or refer them to the secretary, a committee member or PNZ for the relevant info.

OTHER NEWS:

RO's: we require more match qualified RO's and are planning to run some  RO course(s) at the WPSSC.

On the Range: please remember that members (committee included) go to the club to engage in activities, have a plink, test re-loads, sight in a rifle etc and often have limited time to do so.

In the interests of keeping this a positive environment in which one can relax and enjoy, please refer club politics to a monthly committee meeting. Meetings are well advertised, and all members are welcome to attend. Here views can be expressed in a controlled manner and steps taken to resolve issues in good time.

Trails End 2017: dates for this event 2017 are 24th, 25th and 26th March. Entry form is here.  If you don't plan to shoot, then please consider attending & contact Ben to offer your help; the more the merrier".

Safety on Range 6: Please note that if you are on Range 6, & need to go downrange (for whatever reason) after closing the range, place the orange "Range Closed" cone in front of the firing point to advise anyone coming to the range.  There has been one occasion where a person was observed (in time, & safety) emerging from the bush downrange before shooting was to commence.

"Snail mail" Bulletins; recently your secretary has been remiss in sending out hard copies of the BulletIn, but he has committed to sending it out in a more timely manner.  HOWEVER if you are one of these members & now have email (or know of one who does) PLEASE advise Eddie via email (wpsscsec@gmail.com) or call 021774666 & you'll be added to the access list.

IPSC: Phil Dunlop

PNZ training manuals: hard copies of the General Coaching Skills Manual were recently ordered and are available. FYI, manuals for all disciplines are available on-line at: http://www.pistolnz.org.nz/training.aspx.
